Anastasia Adasheva (b. 1998, Moscow)

Anastasia Adasheva is an interdisciplinary artist based in Hamburg and NYC, working with video, digital imagery, performance, and installation. Her practice engages with socio-political themes, often pushing them to the edge of absurdity. Merging her background in journalism and sociology, she investigates systems of power, bureaucratic structures, and the performativity of politics.

Drawing from post-Soviet kitsch, post-Internet aesthetics, early animation, and television imagery, her work exposes the glitches, distortions, and surreal logic embedded in contemporary society. Influenced by parafictional strategies, she constructs scenarios that mirror authority and historical truth-making, using fiction to expose underlying systemic contradictions.

Adasheva creates spaces where reality is destabilized, encouraging viewers to question the social structures shaping this reality. Through a lens that is both critical and playfully subversive, she challenges perceptions of power, control, and the narratives that define our present reality.
